Treating Obesity and Diabetes the Natural Way
A disease that is characterized by the body’s failure to effectively use insulin is diabetes.
In the U.S., there are around 17.9 million people diagnosed with diabetes while 5.7 million individuals are not aware that they are suffering from it.
Usually, diabetes goes hand-in-hand with obesity. There are around 64% of Americans seen as overweight or obese. This condition is characterized by having at least 30 pounds more than your ideal weight which can pose serious health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, and asthma.
Physicians say one of the effective and natural ways to reverse or treat diabetes is through physical activity and having a healthy diet so as to reduce weight. Both of these natural methods will minimize a person’s risk of acquiring diabetes by 40% to 60%. Here are also other ways of naturally treating obesity and diabetes.
It is important to lessen the intake of processed foods. These have high levels of artificial fats, preservatives, sugar, and sodium. All of these will make one gain weight. Examples are junk foods as they contain some or all of the above-mentioned ingredients. If one reduces the intake of processed foods, weight loss would be achieved.
White foods should also be lessened as they contain so many calories and minimal nutrients. These include white sugar, white rice, white bread, and white potatoes.
Soda should also be minimized because they contain empty calories and so much sugar. If one reduces his intake of soda, he would be able to also reduce the calories he takes in one day thus resulting in weight loss.
Instead of soda, he should increase his water intake so as to prevent dehydration which makes the body hungry when actually, it is not. Drinking water between meals will not make the body want to eat food between meals.
A person should only eat when he is hungry. According to studies, people who are naturally thin consume food when they are starving. To avoid obesity, a person should eat food only when his body signals for it.
Regular exercise is important to lessen obesity and prevent diabetes. Examples of exercise are walking, jogging, running, biking, dancing, or swimming and these should be maintained for thirty minutes five to seven times a week. These can make one burn extra calories which would lead to weight loss. Exercise also improves the strength of the muscles and heightens flexibility and physical endurance. It also minimizes the risk of acquiring illnesses.
A person should always watch his weight. He must weigh himself once every week so as to check his health. If he starts gaining weight, he must perform proper measures to reduce his weight. He must have a weighing scale at home for this.
A person must also have a physical examination done by a doctor at least once annually. The doctor would then be able to advise him on what to do so as to avoid health complications such as obesity and diabetes. Treatments can then be done so as to avoid early complications.
